Member Story: Living with Arthritis and Finding Pickleball
“I’ve lived with rheumatoid arthritis in my major joints for over 60 years. About 10 years ago, new medications made a big difference, and 5 years ago I began physiotherapy to strengthen my ankles, feet, and shoulders. I also started daily walks with my dog, gradually increasing the distance.
A year and a half ago, friends introduced me to Pickleball and it’s truly been life-changing. I’m fitter than I’ve ever been, I have less pain, and even the fatigue that came with arthritis has improved considerably.
Pickleball is not only fantastic exercise but also a lot of fun. I encourage anyone, especially those living with arthritis, to join the club and give it a try!"

Member Story: Joining the Pickleball Community in Oughterard
“Pickleball in Oughterard has provided me with a semi-competitive route back into racket sports. Having played tennis competitively many years ago, I had been searching for a way to get back into the game or a similar sport without having to travel to Galway city.
Now instead of driving myself mad over a tennis game I lost 30 years ago, I can drive myself mad over a pickleball game I lost 30 minutes ago!
Seriously though, I would recommend it to any potentially interested party. I’m not a local so on top of providing with me a route back into sport, it has allowed me to make many new friends and feel part of the wider community.”

Member Story: Returning to Sport
"Joining Galway Pickleball Club a year and a half ago was one of the best decisions I’ve made! I hadn’t played sport at any competitive level in 30 years before I came across the club, but from day one, I felt welcomed and supported. It’s an incredible community with fantastic people and top-notch coaching. The support and camaraderie make every game enjoyable, and I’m especially grateful to Teo and the whole coaching team for their dedication and encouragement."
